There is some cause for amusement in Donald Trump Jr.’s wildly oblivious and fumbling attempts to end-run a raft of campaign and influence laws. That is, I suppose, now that his efforts have become public knowledge. It is quite comical to see a person who has never been held accountable for anything come to terms with a serious crime he thinks is beneath him. How the country’s princes and kings manage such indignities, it is a wonder.
I assume the culture of casual entitlement plays a role in Donnie Jr.’s keepers and counselors coming up with this sort of buffoonery in trying to keep him out of jail:
“We have learned from both our own investigation and public reports that the participants in the meeting misrepresented who they were and who they worked for,” Trump legal spokesperson Mark Corallo told The New York Times.
At first read this is all my balls. We know the e-mails specifically stated it was an effort by the Russian government, and that the itinerant lawyer was closely tied to Putin’s Kremlin.
“Specifically, we have learned that the person who sought the meeting is associated with Fusion GPS, a firm which according to public reports, was retained by Democratic operatives to develop opposition research on the president and which commissioned the phony Steele dossier.”
A sleazebag attorney with ties to a D.C. investigative firm? What, no! That Putin’s counselor would throw her hand in with the anti-Trumps in a ratfucking operation? That the wonks at Fusion would even attempt such a thing? Laughable. Half of their clients would jump ship – it’d be suicide, not to mention potentially illegal.
OTOH, a Kremlin operative trying to dirty the Clinton campaign? By way of Russian pop stars and oligarchs who met, and knew, and were big supporters of The Donald? Entirely possible, I think. Documented actually.
Then there’s Donald himself.
The president then attempted to blame the meeting on the Obama administration, pointing out that the Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was approved to enter the US by former Attorney General Loretta Lynch.
“Somebody said that her visa or her passport to come into the country was approved by Attorney General Lynch,” Trump said. “Now, maybe that’s wrong. I just heard that a little while ago, I was surprised to hear that. She was here because of Lynch.”
Well, that’s certainly normal. A U.S. attorney general being personally involved in admitting a Russian national for the purposes of setting up/taking down a civilian. Buzzfeed tells us it was actually the Department of Homeland Security who made the call, which is not exactly the DOJ. Then again, who knows the full length and breadth of Lynch’s perfidy?
…Mr Trump also told CBN that Mr Putin would have preferred his election opponent as US president.
“[I]f Hillary had won, our military would be decimated,” Mr Trump said. “Our energy would be much more expensive. That’s what Putin doesn’t like about me. And that’s why I say, why would he want me?”
Oh, I see. Putin’s no longer your pal, your 60 Minutes stable mate, and a great admirer of your accomplishments. I don’t imagine you, Mr. President, would ever dismiss the sanctions that have frozen billions of his cronies’ dollars over here. Why would anyone think that? But may I quote from the same article?
“We are a tremendously powerful nuclear power, and so are they. It doesn’t make sense not to have some kind of relationship,” the US leader added.
Not exactly ‘Fuck you and your digital bullshit.’ I also remind the audience that Vladimir can read.
“We’re going to be exporting energy – he doesn’t want that. He would like Hillary where she wants to have windmills. He would much rather have that because energy prices would go up and Russia as you know relies very much on energy.”
Yes, the development of such wussy things as ‘windmills’ under the Clinton administration would in no way threaten Putin’s Gazprom fossil fuel business. And of course Hillary would surely issue an executive order forcing ExxonMobil, et. al., to stop whatever it is they’re doing, giving Putin a virtual monopoly in the international energy markets. How could I have been so blind?
Dear friends, we cannot leave the snarkings of blog without at least throwing in a bit of levity. Now here you go, have at this:
Right-wing outlets, pro-Trump media personalities, and conspiracy theorists are falsely claiming that the attorney who met with Donald Trump Jr. during the 2016 campaign was a left-wing operative trying to torpedo a future Trump administration…
Outlets and personalities pushing the conspiracy theory have tried to link Veselnitskaya to Hillary Clinton, Republican Sen. John McCain, and the Obama administration as some sort of nefarious plot to plant listening devices in Trump Tower.
According to the investigative web team of Woodward and Goebbelstein, Hillary Clinton’s Putin-attorney once sat somewhere behind Obama’s ambassador at a random hearing, in June of 2014, which means she sat with him, at Watergate, in June of 2016 – eight days after she met with Junior!!! – which tells us she was a deep state operative, who very likely was the furtive person sneaking around and planting Barack-bugs in Trump Tower. You just stop, stop that laughing. This is altogether very serious as well as suspicious to Rush Limbaugh:
“I think the whole thing’s a setup,” Limbaugh said on his radio show Wednesday. “I think the whole thing is a misdirection play.”…
“This whole thing — especially when you see this woman’s anti-Trump, anti-Putin Facebook posts — just doesn’t add up.”
OH yes – let’s not forget the Facebook posts. There are always SnapFaces and ChatSpaces, in this case where Veselnitskay lavishes pink praise on anti-Putin PC crowds demonstrating against The Leader, Team Red. Obviously there’s something’s going on here. This is It.

Damning evidence. Except for: shoot. Russian is not so easy to read.
But a BuzzFeed News translation of her comments on the images show that Veselnitskaya did not attend the rallies, and was instead being critical of them.
“It’s all about abortions, homosexuality, illegal immigration and two presidents,” she wrote in Russian.
Ooh well. And the mention, of the ‘two presidents’? What about them? She’s referring to a picture of Putin with Trump. Of whom she is a big fan.
